“Jyoti, how do you manage? You have so many people to manage, so many projects. How do you really manage it all?”
This is the question I get asked most often, so let me answer it the way I actually answer it in person.
I use help, a lot. That is the whole secret, and I am not embarrassed by it.
I try to prioritise the things that really need me. I have been trying to master the art of rejecting work, and of delegating the work that does not really need me. Not everything on my plate deserves me, and learning to tell the difference is the actual skill.
Do not try to be a superwoman who does it all. If you work, you should have help. Offload chores as much as possible, so that the time you do have goes to the people you love, and you feel less guilty about the time you spend away from them.
And I protect focus time to learn something new. Not for the company, for me. It enriches me and I feel happy about myself, and a happier me manages everything else better.
Create a system around you that works. That is the answer. Not more hours, not more sacrifice. A system.
